Good news for pre-menopausal women!
In October 2022, a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover study focused on female breast health in pre-menopausal women was published in the Journal of Complementary and Integrative Medicine. Participants were asked to take EstroSense or placebo three times daily, throughout 3 menstrual cycles (∼12 weeks). EstroSense is a blend of bioactive compounds including Indole-3-carbinol and green tea catechins, which may favourably affect estrogen levels.
Why are researchers interested in estrogen metabolites?
Some of the end products, or metabolites of estrogen increase the risk of breast cancer, while others are protective. Researchers are interested to find out which factors can be modified either through food or supplements, to lower harmful metabolites and encourage a hormonally balanced estrogen profile with anti-cancer properties.
This study was conducted to determine if EstroSense use, compared to placebo, promotes a higher urinary 2-hydroxyestrone:16α-hydroxyestrone ratio (2-OHE1:16α-OHE1), a biomarker associated with a lowered risk of breast cancer.
What did the results show?
The study of 114 premenopausal women showed that using EstroSense led to markedly higher levels of a protective estrogen metabolite and lower levels of a more dangerous metabolite, when compared to placebo.
"Balancing the ratio of these metabolites is important... we now have an additional tool in our toolbox” when it comes to breast health, notes Dr. Jennifer Brix, one of the principal investigators in this study.
What are the symptoms of estrogen imbalance?
Symptoms such as heavy or painful periods, hormonal acne, PMS, ovarian cysts, and fibrocystic breasts, may be sparked by a difference in the ratio of estrogen to progesterone (a hormone imbalance often referred to as “estrogen dominance”). By detoxifying the liver of “bad estrogens” that we absorb from our environment and encouraging healthy estrogen metabolism, these symptoms will usually lessen over the course of 2-3 cycles.
EstroSense is formulated to help with the maintenance of healthy hormone balance from puberty throughout a woman’s lifetime. It combines key ingredients such as calcium D-glucarate, indole-3-carbinol, sulforaphane, and milk thistle for promoting liver detoxification and excretion of harmful estrogens. It also provides non-GMO turmeric, lycopene, rosemary, and green tea for powerful antioxidant support. The recommended adult dose is 3 capsules daily with food or as directed by your health care practitioner.
