Flora Ferritin+™ is a clinically proven, slow release, plant sourced form of iron that is readily absorbed without causing irritation to the gastro-intestinal tract. Ferritin iron is a natural form of iron that every living thing produces in order to safely store iron in the body. Ferritin is a type of iron containing protein that is absorbed by endocytosis, a different absorption pathway than other iron forms, like ferrous sulphate or heme iron. The absorption is as good as these other forms, but occurs in a controlled, slow release fashion to avoid oxidative damage or intestinal irritation. Due to its unique protein bound nature, ferritin iron absorption is unaffected by anti-nutritives like phytates, oxalates or tannins, as well as minerals like calcium. It also doesn’t require vitamin C or other co-factors.
