N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine (NAC) is a derivative of the dietary amino acid l-cysteine. NAC scavenges free radicals and decreases oxidative stress produced by heavy metals to support antioxidant defense. It is also a precursor to the antioxidant glutathione, and supplemental NAC increases tissue levels of glutathione. Several animal studies suggest that NAC administration may also help to moderate the effects of mercury and cadmium accumulation in the kidneys and liver. NAC may achieve these actions in part by promoting healthy glutathione levels or protecting tissues from peroxidation generated by heavy metals. NAC also has a high affinity for lung tissue, which it supports through antioxidant action.
NAC may also support brain and liver health, and help with some addictions, but more research is needed to fully understand its effects on those aspects of health.
Ingredients
Medicinal Ingredients (Each capsule contains):
- N-acetyl-l-cysteine (L-alpha-Acetamido-beta-mercaptopropionic acid) 600mg
- Vitamin C 2.1 mg (from 5 mg of ascorbyl palmitate).
Non-Medicinal Ingredients
Hydroxy propyl methylcellulose, Purified water.
Suggested Use
Provides nutritional support as an antioxidant to protect against free radical damage for the maintenance of good health.
Recommended Dose: Adults. Take 1 capsule daily with a meal or as directed by a healthcare practitioner.
Cautions
Consult a healthcare practitioner prior to use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have kidney stones. Do not use if you are taking nitroglycerin or antibiotics.
