Relieves Headache, Muscular and Arthritic Pain
Summary
White willow bark contains salicin, a monoglycoside of salicylic acid. This plant is the source of the common pain reliever aspirin and is used for inflammation and pain.
The bark of this tree is known for its properties to relieve pain and reduce fever. In the 19th century, a French chemist extracted salicin from willow and identified it as the active ingredient. Later, Felix Hoffmann, a chemist for Bayer, produced aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid). The trend today is to return to natural remedies to avoid the side effects of synthetic aspirin.
White willow bark's glycosides, especially salicin, convert to acetylsalicylic acid in the body, providing effective pain relief without gastrointestinal toxicity. It treats fever and inflammation, cleanses the blood, and supports digestion and normal bodily functions.
