Passiflora incarnata, also known as passionflower, is a plant species native to North and South America. It has a long history of use in traditional medicine as a sedative, tranquilizer, and sleep aid.

In traditional medicine, passionflower has been used to treat anxiety, insomnia, seizures, hysteria, and neuralgia. It has also been used as a pain reliever, antispasmodic, and anti-inflammatory agent.

In modern phytotherapy, passionflower is commonly used as a natural remedy for anxiety, insomnia, and nervousness. It is believed to work by increasing levels of the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), which has a calming effect on the brain and nervous system.
